Designer 7.1 Patch -- 07 JAN, 1998

     What is the Designer 7.1 Patch ? 

     The Designer 7.1 Patch is a self-extracting file
     named: DSSETUP.EXE 

     Note: This upgrade is only for the retail installed
     product (i.e. locally installed version). It is not
     applicable if you are using a client/network installation
     or if you use QuickSilver. Contact Micrografx for an
     alternate solution for either of these two issues. 

     If you have a currently installed working copy of
     Designer 7 and want to upgrade to Designer 7.1, then
     you will need to run the DSSETUP.EXE included in the
     Designer 7.1 Patch. In order to successfully upgrade to
     Designer 7.1, you must currently have a working copy
     of Designer 7 installed to your local hard drive. To
     check your current version of Designer, click the About
     Designer tab in the Designer Help menu. 

     Before downloading the 10 megabyte self-extracting
     patch utility, ensure the following: 

          You must have at least 10 megabytes of free
          space on the drive that Designer 7 is currently
          installed 
          You must have at least 10 megabytes of free
          space on the drive that the Operating System is
          installed 
          You must have a working version of Designer 7
          locally installed

             1.To download the patch, follow the steps
               from the"Download The Patch Now" link
               below. 
             2.Save the patch to an empty directory on
               your local hard disk. 

               Note: Some browsers offer a choice
               of"Save it to disk" or "Open it."

             3.Your browser will ask you to choose a
               location for the file. Although you can
               designate any location on your hard drive,
               we recommend that you choose the
               Windows 95 desktop. If you save the file to
               your hard drive, make sure that the
               designated directory is empty. 
             4.When the download is complete, exit your
               web browser and follow the installation
               steps below. 

          How do I install the patch? 

          After downloading the patch, follow these
          instructions: 

             1.If you selected the Windows 95 desktop as
               the download destination, double-click the
               new icon to begin the installation. If you
               chose another destination, use the
               Explorer to find the file named
               DSSETUP.EXE and double-click the file. 
             2.Once you double-click the new
               DSSETUP.EXE the upgrade installation
               will begin.

This is the read me file for the Designer 7.1 patch. The Designer 7.1 patch 
enables you to perform an upgrade installation from Designer 7.0 to 7.1. This patch will not update network installations.

Local, Single-user Installation
--------------------------------

* If you are attempting to install Designer 7.1 to a machine with a working version of Designer 7.0, then the installation will no longer fail.

* During a local installation of Designer 7.1, the appropriate executable will setup all registry entries and system-dependent files to their designated drive space on your machine.

* During a local installation of Designer 7.1, the installer will initiate either a compact, custom, or typical installation according to your input in the associated installation dialog box.

* During a local installation of Designer 7.1, you will be able to select from a list of additional Designer 7.1 components, such as graphic filters, Designer's online help, 
tutorials, and sample files.
